Paying for road use by miles is fair.
But them being able to track you and use this information to arrest you? That is like out of a sci fi totalitarian state.
The Netherlands IS the beta test ground for the Totalitarian state
- We have to give our fingerprints for our passports
- Those fingerprints get filed in a huge database, data retention is unlimited
- Public transport can only be used by the 'OV-chipkaart' an rfid based card, it is stored for 7 years
- The upcoming mileage tracking is also stored for 7 years in a centralized database
- Internet providers in the Netherlands must save ALL traffic logs (the connections, not the data transferred) for 12 months.
- Telephone network providers (cell & land line) Netherlands must save ALL connection logs for 12 months, including which cellphone antenna used.
- The Dutch justice system tapped over 13000 phones (of which 80% was a cellphone) in the 1st half of 2009, now keep in mind that there are only 16 million Dutch... Compare this to the 1891 wiretaps in 2008 in the USA
http://www.uscourts.gov/wiretap08/Table4.pdfSo... want to live here? Please, for your own safety... KEEP THE BLEEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, there is an outflow of 150000 Dutch citizens every year now, and above are some of the reasons.
Most people here seem outraged when asked about their opinion, and then fall back into the TV-watching hypnotized couch potatoes they really are with their "I got nothing to hide"-attitude.
I feel sick
